Engineered nanocomposites in asphalt binders

Abstract Recently, nanotechnology has been effectively used in the field of road pavement. Oxidation and aging asphalt cause deterioration pavements increase asphalt-related emissions. We propose an anti-aging strategy to interrupt by using engineered clay/fumed silica nanocomposites. In this research, morphological, chemical, thermal, mechanical, rheological properties nano-modified binders are meticulously analyzed various conditions. The experiment results proved that composite efficiently disrupts chemical oxidation decomposition mixture reduces rate. Remarkably, binder rheology experiments revealed addition 0.2–0.3 wt% nano-reinforced materials maximized their resistance after short- long-term aging. Moreover, nanoparticles improve moisture efficiency turn overcome critical issue low production temperature within framework warm mix technology.
